Sunshine’s Lancelot Correya recently celebrated his 100th birthday with family and friends.

Mr Correya migrated to Australia in 1989 at age 67 after working as an administrative clerk at Caltex and a curtain maker in India.

Before turning 100, Correya, who lived in Monash Street in Sunshine, overcame multiple health scares including prostate cancer in his mid 80’s, a fall at age 97 requiring surgery, and catching COVID three weeks before reaching the birthday milestone.

Mr Correya complimented the BlueCross Western Gardens nursing home, where he has stayed at since the fall, for their help.

“The supervisors, if they find you a little miserable, they will come up to you and say what’s happened to you and ask questions,” he said.

“It is also very good food.”

Correya said he has been happy about the life he has had since arriving in Australia.

He said he still enjoys himself despite his age.

“Age is no limit, you can have a good feed and a good drink,” he said.
