Incinerator-type sanitary conveniences, once referred to by the late Cr. Peter Jackson as “thunderboxes” have fallen into disfavor with Werribee Shire Council because of odor problems. In addition there were four cases of units having caught fire or at least overheated.

Hoppers Crossing is likely to get improved medical facilities following the Werribee Council’s decision to grant a permit to a Werribee property developer to build a day hospital in Derrimut Rd, Hoppers Crossing. The council has placed 20 conditions on a planning permit for developer Mr John Flynn, of Wedge St, Werribee.

Suburbs in the west vowed to help end toxic dumps in a stunning show of force at the Werribee Racecourse on Monday night. Between 15,000 and 20,000 residents braved the bitter cold to force home their message that toxic dumps were obsolete and not welcome in Victoria.

Authorities believe local shopping areas could be a common link between three cases of legionnaire’s disease in Wyndham being investigated by the Department of Health Services. Victoria’s chief health officer John Carnie said on Monday that two Werribee men, aged 30 and 45, and a 48-year-pld woman of Point Cook had received hospital treatment.
