Sunshine: Click of the West display puts past in focus

Desmond Johnson remembers the day Sunshine Harvester Works factory was demolished to make way for Sunshine Marketplace.

The octogenarian photographer and writer recorded the factory’s 1991 demolition and the old Art Deco offices of H.V. McKay in Devonshire Road.

The arresting black and white images are part of the Sunshine resident’s Click of the West exhibition being held as part of the Brimbank Writers and Readers Festival from September 3.

The exhibition, at the Sunshine Arts Spaces, will chronicle 26 years of photographs that capture the area, and an era, with a particular focus on Johnson’s stomping ground of Ardeer, Deer Park and Sunshine.
