Sunshine Lantern Festival: No flash in the pan

Expect some thriller moves in Sunshine next month when the Sunshine Lantern Festival comes to town.

About 30 people aged 12 to 25 from Headspace in Sunshine are practising their best Michael Jackson moves for a flash mob dance to the hit song Thriller.

Festival-goers can also expect rides, street performers, market stalls, music, food, a lantern parade along Hampshire Road and fireworks during what is expected to be Victoria’s largest lantern festival.

Sunshine Business Association president Bruce White said traders had last held the festival in 2012 and hoped to make it an annual event.

“We’ve got a lot of Asian traders in Sunshine. The Lunar New Year festival is already owned by the St Albans traders, so we wanted to have another activity that engages with the community,” Mr White said.

The Sunshine Lantern Festival is from 10am to 8pm on Saturday, September 6.
