Young back with the Aces

Sunshine Eagles pitcher Jeremy Young will again pull on the Melbourne Aces jersey in the Australian Baseball League.

The Aces announced late last month that Young had signed on for a fifth season with the club.

“The right-hander has logged 47 strikeouts in 57.0 innings of work in his Aces career,” the announcement said.

“Young has pitched 37 of his 41 career ABL games for the Aces, while he tossed the other four games for Canberra during the 2020-21 season.

“The 27-year-old returns to Melbourne after playing in the Dutch Major League earlier in 2022.”

Young joins new Eagles recruit Daryl George on the Aces roster.

Young’s brothers Jordan and Jamie have also previously played for the Aces. Jordan is also part of Sunshine’s team this year.

Jared Cruz and Jarryd Dale have also re-signed with the Aces.

Cruz returns for a ninth season in Melbourne after playing in 163 games for the Aces from 2013-2020.

The 27-year-old super-utility player has started games at seven different positions for the Aces, with most of his innings coming at shortstop and second base.

Dale returns to his boyhood club in Melbourne for a sixth season.

The middle infielder was a part of the Aces championship runs in 2019/20 and 2020/21 and has been playing for the Aces since he was 16.

Dale showed promise as a strong hitter and excellent fielder, signing with the San Diego Padres in 2017 after his first season as a pro in Melbourne. He has continued playing in the ABL since his signing.

The Aces are bringing back pitchers Genevieve Beacom and Hayden Peoples, and made new additions with outfielder Nick Bertucci and catcher Declan Spiers as part of their development roster.

All four players were among 35 invitees to the 2022 Australian national junior squad in preparation for the World Baseball Softball Confederation under-18 World Cup

The ABL returns after last season was cancelled due to COVID-19. The Aces open their 2022-23 ABL season at Melbourne Ballpark on November 11 against Geelong-Korea.
