WRFL announce new competition structure

No Western Region Football League side has been relegated following a restructure of all three grades within the competition for the 2017 season.

The restructure sees Caroline Springs enter division one, and Newport joins division two, but no side will be relegated, leaving the top division with 10 sides, division two with seven and division three with eight.

The move comes after consultation with all clubs on the best way forward for the competition, and means division two will be the only grade to feature a bye in the 2017 fixture.

Wyndhamvale and West Footscray would have been relegated from divisions one and two respectively, but receive a reprieve under the restructure.

The WRFL has also reduced the player points cap for sides to 45 (down from 48) and also set the salary caps for the three grades for 2017 onwards.

Division one clubs will have a salary cap of $225,000, division two $100,000 and division three $50,000.
