Patients at Sunshine Hospital will have greater access to public transport with the new Ginifer train station in St Albans being built approximately 200 metres closer to the Sunshine Hospital than the old station.

Taking a tour of the revamped St Albans train station this morning, the Star Weekly understands Ginifer will be located further south-east along the Sunbury Line at Furlong Road.

Crews have dug an eight metre channel at St Albans.

Both stations are due to be fully operational from October 31, however full works will not be completed until the middle of next year, including a 700 square-metre retail hub at St Albans.

The new St Albans station will also feature two new bridge crossings, either side of the new building.

Crews have dug an eight metre channel north of St Albans station, running parallel with the old tracks which have since been removed.

When train services return, trains will travel under Main and Furlong Roads.
