Deer Park adds start power to premier division

Deer Park has locked in three of Australia’s best players for the upcoming Bowls Victoria weekend pennant premier division season.

The Parkers announced that Aron Sherriff, Ray Pearse and Matt Baus would both be part of the side aiming to go one step further next season.

Sherriff returns to the club after a season away.

Sherriff is already a winner of two premier division titles with the club in 2023 and 2024 and is excited about getting back to Melbourne to represent the Parkers again.

“I’m very keen to come back and play with Deer Park again,” he said.

“The two years I had at the club were outstanding, the members were so welcoming and after having a year off playing in Melbourne last season, I’m hungry to help the club get back to the top.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting all the club’s junior members as well, that was another big thing for me.”

Deer Park head of bowls operations Mark Casey said they didn’t hesitate to bring Sherriff back when he became available.

“He’s the world’s best for a reason, he’s a winner,” he said. “ When our members heard the news, they were all ecstatic so we can’t wait.”

Another world champion Ray Pearse will join Deer Park for the first time this season.

He has been a prolific winner on the bowls circuit for the past decade, the club believes Pearse will be able to enhance not only the squad as a whole, but particularly the junior members which is important for us.

“To be asked to represent Deer Park was firstly an honour, and something that I’m really looking forward to. I have a number of close mates at the club already so it would be great to get down there and go to battle with them once again.” Pearse said.

Casey, who has played with Pearse before, said he knows what Pearse brings to the table and he will fit in perfectly.

Australian Champion Matt Baus will be another marquee player for the Parkers this season.

Baus has been a permanent fixture in the squad in recent years.

“I love the Deer Park Club and everything about it, the members, the staff and the way they go about it week in, week out,” he said.

“To come so close last year makes me want it even more so I can’t wait to come back. It’s going to be a great year.”

Casey said that Baus was a club favourite.

“On and off the green, he is a professional and always gives us his all which is what we love about him,” he said.

“Without question, one of the most underrated players in the country, I’m just glad he’ll be wearing the blue and gold again next season.”
