Albion thrashed in Todd Finco’s 350th club game

Albion was second best all day in a 68-point mauling by Spotswood in division 1 of the WRFL at Parsons Reserve on Saturday.

It left a sour taste in the mouths of Cats fans, who had gathered to celebrate the 350th club game of stalwart Todd Finco.

Finco has enjoyed a magnificent season for the Cats, including 37 goals in 14 games, but even he was down on his usual output on his big day.

While Albion tried to mount a fightback in the third quarter, cutting back a 27-point half-time deficit to 17 by the last change, the Woodsmen finished with an eight-goal-to-zip last quarter.

Albion can play the role of finals spoiler when it rounds out its season on the road at Altona on Saturday in Aaron Tymms’ last game in charge before new coach Chris O’Keefe takes over.

Deer Park secured the minor premiership for the fourth year running.

The Lions left nothing to chance in a 201-point whipping of Wyndhamvale at John McLeod Oval, with Kwame McHarg at his scintillating best with nine goals.

Sunshine Kangaroos had a gutsy eight-point win over finals contenders Altona at Kinder Smith Reserve, thanks to Aaron Searle (four goals) and Ben Christodoulou (three).

In division 2, Albanvale went down by 141 points to ladder leader North Footscray, while in division 3, North Sunshine sank to a 75-point defeat to Sanctuary Lakes.
