Hatch Shield: Sunshine Crows bow out in tight race

Sunshine has finished second-last in the 2014 Hatch Shield, but only two wins out of the finals picture.

In a tight west group race, all clubs bar Altona picked up two or more wins from their five matches.

Only five rounds were possible due to the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association’s decision to cancel the last round due to temperatures soaring into the 40s.

Sunshine’s wins came over winless Altona and Melton.

Their victory over the Altona was a one-wicket thriller with Remi Havard’s 35 not out the key.

Havard also scored 33 not out against finalist Yarraville.

The eclipsing of Melton was also a close affair with Sunshine winning by two wickets.

Vipin Khosla came up big with the ball for the Crows with 3-11 off just 4.4 overs.

Khosla took at least a wicket in every game to finish with eight for the tournament.

Peter Hatzoglou (35) and Prabhjeet Gill (27) were superb in the Crows run chase.
