More than two million Australians know how to do the downward dog pose, according to Roy Morgan research.

For those uninitiated with yoga you can now come and learn for free in Sunshine.

Derrimut yoga studio Carja has partnered with the Youth Junction Inc, housed in the old H.V. McKay factory, to bring yoga and meditation to Brimbank youths.

Carja co-founder Caroline Tang said the studio wanted to introduce yoga “to young people who need it most”.

“Imagine a community where the youth of today have the tools to be conscious of their reactions; be calmer, and have less judgment of themselves and others,” she said.

“Through yoga and meditation, the community can learn the art of using their breath to control their life, rather than allowing the environment to control them.”

Carja’s Sunshine studio will open on May 15 and will offer free yoga classes to Visy Cares Hub youths each Friday, and for other members of the community once a month.

To celebrate the opening, a launch party will be held at Carja’s Derrimut studio on May 20 between 11.30am and 2.30pm featuring singing and rapping performances.
