Health centre boost for babies

Brimbank’s baby boom has received a helping hand with the opening of a new maternal and child health centre in Sunshine.

The new facility came about following a $730,000 investment from Brimbank council, and after a record 5475 babies were born at Sunshine Hospital in 2016.

Across 2015/16 there were 8710 children seen by Brimbank maternal and child care nurses, with mayor John Hedditch excited to see the new centre opening.

“The construction of the new Sunshine Maternal and Child Health Centre is an important project for the municipality,” Mr Hedditch said.

“During 2015-16 the Sunshine Maternal and Child Health Centre nurses saw 1,458 children and conducted 443 Maternal and Child Health first home visits.

“The modern, user-friendly layout and the facilities available here allow us to provide better services to meet the needs of Brimbank families requiring important maternal and child health services.”

The new centre comes in the 100th year of The Maternal and Child Health Service in Victoria, with Mr Hedditch praising the work of local nurses in that area over the years.

The new centre is open at 31A Alexandra Ave, Sunshine.
