Deer Park West Primary School staff have been hitting the pavers to raise funds for Camp Quality.
What started as one staff member registering for the Big Walk for Little Kids, a virtual walking challenge, turned into a group of staff members getting on board.
Office administration staff member Kelly Myall had a pretty special reason to get involved.
“Nearly seven years ago, we lost our school’s performing arts-visual arts teacher, Emily Day to cancer,“ she said.
“Every year since her passing I try and raise money for the Cancer Council by having morning teas at work but of course the past couple of years have been tough.
“This year when DPW decided to join the Big Walk for Little Kids I didn’t think Emily would mind that if this year the money went to the kids.”
Ms Day’s parents were kind enough to donate $200 to the fundraising efforts.
Teacher Dakota Balintong said, “if all it takes is walking 100km in a month to raise enough money for young children and their families to visit the camp and join in experiences, education and care, I would complete this every month of the year.”
Melissa McFarlane, a teacher and a mother of three, said she joined the walk because she knows how lucky she is that her children are all healthy and it’s her way of supporting children with cancer.
