The reception counters at Keilor Downs, Sunshine, Caroline Springs and Melton police stations have been temporarily closed due to COVID-19 cases.

A police spokesperson confirmed that six staff members across the local division had tested positive for COVID-19 between September 17 and 19 and that the reception counters had been closed as a result.

“Police will still be working from the stations and actively patrolling the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” they said.

“The reception closure allows for more police to be out on the road while some officers are safely isolating due to the coronavirus exposure.

“Victoria Police’s priority first and foremost is to ensure the safety of its people and the community.”

The spokesperson said the officers concerned were immediately informed to safely isolate and their work areas have undergone a deep clean.

Bacchus Marsh, Gisborne, Sunbury and Footscray police stations will remain open to the public.

“We encourage the community to contact the Police assistance line on 131 444 or use the online reporting service for non-urgent matters,” the said spokesperson said.

“In an emergency, always contact Triple Zero (000).
