Two bright Braybrook College students have been recognised for scoring top marks in a VCE VET subject they completed while in year 11.
Katrina Van and Judy Hang received the Premier’s VCE High Achiever awards for near-perfect scores of 47 and 48 respectively in their VCE VET subject community services last year.
Braybrook College careers co-ordinator and community services teacher Rowena Archer said the girls were recognised as excellent students and were invited to be part of an accelerated VCE program when in year 9.
She said their interest in pursuing careers in health and community service industries led them to the VCE VET community services subject, which teaches students the ins and outs of disabilities, child and aged care work and how to work in linguistically and culturally diverse communities.
Ms Archer said she was thrilled when she found out the pair had been recognised for their excellent results.
“These two students were stand-out candidates, they worked really hard,” she said.
Miss Van said she would pursue tertiary studies, possibly in psychology, after completing year 12, while Miss Hang said she was considering a career as a social worker.
Last week, they were among 287 students who received study awards.
Students must score 46 or above to be eligible for the awards, which recognise young Victorians who have completed the Victorian Certificate of Education with distinction.
