An Australian-first return-to-work initiative has been recognised at the 2017 WorkSafe Awards.
The initiative, which was developed by Tullamarine-based recruitment and HR consultancy company Horner, took first place in the leading return-to-work practice by an employer category.
The program, which was designed in partnership with St Vincent de Paul, places injured workers who are capable of returning to work to perform either limited or modified duties at one of the Vinnies Melbourne stores.
Horner director Peter Langford said the company was thrilled to have its unique policy recognised.
“We are proud to have been recognised by WorkSafe for our innovative thinking and commitment to OHS and to be the first recruitment agency to win a WorkSafe award in this category,” Mr Langford said
St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria people engagement officer Sue Trzcinski echoed Mr Langford’s sentiments, lauding the policy’s innovative premise.
“From the society’s perspective, it’s been wonderful to be able to give someone the opportunity or stepping stone to get back to what they want to do,” she said.
Horner was one of 164 entries received across nine award categories, which were then shortlisted down to 23 finalists. Winners were announced last month
