There’s been a spike in the number of women hitting the fairway at the Keilor Public Golf Course.
The Kangaroo Plains Golf Academy, which is based at the course, recently held a free women’s clinic to support Women’s Health Week.
Coach Scott Wearne said there was a terrific turnout.
“About a dozen ladies turned up and all had a lot of fun,” he said.
“It went for a couple of hours and the Tim Tams were certainly enjoyed afterwards. It was a great day.”
Mr Wearne said he hopes the number of female golfers at Keilor continues to grow.
“We’ve got over 20 female members at the moment, but we’d love to see that jump to 100 ladies coming when the warmer weather hits.
“There was a bit of a drop in the number of ladies playing the sport, but I think now it’s being realised that this is a sport for all nationalities and all abilities. It’s not about what you can’t do, it’s what you can do.”
To help promote the sport, Mr Wearne will be hosting a four-week clinic for ladies throughout October.
“We’ll meet for two hours on Tuesdays and cover all aspects of golf – driving, chipping and eating Tim Tams.
“Women are really great to coach, they listen well and aren’t afraid to have a bit of a laugh at themselves.
“I’m really looking forward to it. The key message is to have heaps of fun and learn a new skill.”
