At the age of 91, Evelyn Tricklebank is entering her 49th year as a participating member of the Mt Derrimut Golf and Community Club.
Tricklebank joined the club in 1973 after a colleague from work suggested giving golf a try.
“I appreciate that young guy that put my name through and got that form for me,” Tricklebank said.
Tricklebank was walking the course three times a week, taking over four hours to complete it each time until last year where she decided to begin using a golf cart to make it easier on the body.
Asked about her longevity in the sport she said: “I’m amazed at myself really, but I’ve just loved golf and I took to it like nothing on earth and I have carried on with it.”
Tricklebank was awarded life membership on March 3 earlier this month for her incredible contribution to the club, which included her service as a ladies committee member for over 12 years holding positions as president and captain.
Tricklebank credited the members of the club.
“The people at this club have amazed me, they are a really really friendly group, men and women,’ she said.
“I have always been at this club and would never change it for anything.”
Her advice to other seniors: “Don’t think that you retire from work and do nothing, you have to get out there and do something for yourself,” she said.
“If you don’t do anything for yourself, no one else is going to do it for you.”
