Sunshine history will be celebrated this weekend.
Organised by the Sunshine & District Historical Society, an exploration of Sunshine’s past will take place at Sunshine library, with artefacts and objects or significance being discussed and members of the public being encouraged to bring along their own mementoes and heirlooms.
Society vice-president John Willaton said he planned to present a conductors baton that was gifted to his grandfather, John Bate Willaton, in 1908, and was used to conduct the Sunshine Methodist Church choir from 1917.
“This object featured in the early developing history of Sunshine with which it has had a connection for 100 years,”
Mr Willaton said.
“The baton is a prized family heirloom with great sentimental value and has a tradition of being passed to the eldest son through the generations.”
The day will include a round-table discussion on the objects on display.
