Footscray Hospital has received a major facelift, courtesy of VCAL students at Caroline Chisholm Catholic College.
Students from the college carried out beautification works around the hospital over the course of 2017, breathing fresh life and colour back into the facilities.
Caroline Chisholm Catholic College communications director Richard Liistro said the partnership between the school and Western Health proved to be a win-win.
“It was the first time the hospital had partnered with a school for a project like this, so it was a bit of a trial,” Mr Liistro said.
“But they were really impressed with what the students produced, they’re already talking about what we can do next year.”
As part of the project, students refurbished the hospital’s ICT room, kitchen and waiting areas and also brightened up the staff garden.
“These were the first beautification works carried out on the facilities in about 50 years, so it was a pretty big deal.”
Mr Liistro said the feedback from the students has been just as positive as that from the hospital.
“We had a group of 20 students working with a mentor throughout the project,” he said.
“They loved the real world experience they got, but most of all they really enjoyed being able to engage with the people who were using the spaces.”
