Sport grounds closed and power line down due to flooding

Emergency Victoria has severe weather warnings across parts of Victoria.

Brimbank council has closed all sporting grounds in the area due to severe weather conditions.

Training and competition will not be held on Brimbank sports grounds on Thursday, October 13 or Friday, October 14.

A Brimbank council Facebook post said that as surfaces are saturated, ground closure will assist in surface recovery and avoid further damage to the grounds.

“Grounds will continue to be inspected and clubs will be updated if ground closure is lifted should weather and/or ground conditions improve,” the post said.

Power lines are also down near the corner of Sunshine Road and Market Road in Sunshine.

Emergency services are directing traffic through the area.

Drivers are encouraged to use Somerville Road as an alternative to Sunshine Road and allow extra time.

Rain is expected to continue for the rest of Thursday, October 13 and into Friday.
