Safer sanctuary for dogs

Delahey’s canine population is set to have a new favourite place, as the council is seeking feedback on the draft concept design for a proposed new enclosed off-leash dog park.

Situated on the corner of Goldsmith Avenue and Coleridge Drive, the new enclosed off-leash dog park plans includes a larger area for dogs to run about, with a separate space for small and shy dogs, natural rummaging areas, dog waste dispensers and bins, all weather surfacing, a drinking fountain and new landscaping with tree plantings for biodiversity and more shade.

The proposed dog park is part of Brimbank council’s Creating Better Parks Policy and Plan to provide quality parks and open spaces for the whole community.

Local dog owners are encouraged to come along to the dog park for a listening post with council staff on Saturday, October 22 from 10am to noon.

Brimbank mayor Jasmine Nguyen said this is an “exciting project” for the Delahey community.

“We encourage the community to take a look at the draft concept design and let us know what you think,” she said.

“Your input is important to council.”

Construction on the new enclosed off-leash dog park is expected to begin in mid-2023, with the park scheduled to open to the public in late 2023.
