Shopping, gyms reopen as residents enjoy greater freedom

Brimbank residents made the most of their freedoms at the weekend as COVID-19 case numbers began to fall.

Family visits, heading to the hairdresser and sports training all returned last week, with residents itching to get back out in the community.

On Friday night, people hit the shops and the gym, while many others returned to restaurants for the first time in more than three months.

Victoria officially hit the 80 per cent double dosed vaccine rate for those over the age of 16 on Sunday., the Victorian Department of Health said.

The latest figures for Brimbank reveal that 68.4 per cent of the population over the age of 15 in Brimbank have received both doses of the vaccine, according to the federal health department.

As of last Monday, 89 per cent of Brimbank residents over the age of 15 had received at least one dose of the vaccine, according to the federal data.

In neighbouring Melton, more than 95 per cent of residents over the age of 15 have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 72.4 per cent in that age bracket are fully vaccinated.

On Sunday, there were 1036 new COVID-19 cases in Victoria, the lowest number since the end of September.

In Brimbank, there were 63 new cases to take the total of active cases to 1283.

Overall there have been 6037 cases in Brimbank since the start of the pandemic.

Nandos at Brimbank Central Shopping Centre is classified as a tier one site on two days.

A case worked at the store on October 19 between 9am and 4.30pm and October 18 between 10am and 4.30pm.

Anyone who was there during that period needs to get tested and isolate for 14 days.

That is the only Brimbank site on the Department of Health’s exposure site list.
