Caroline Springs’ Central Shopping Centre is set for a massive overhaul.
Developers recently lodged planning documents with Melton council with the view of creating “a new entertainment and lifestyle precinct.”
The plan will cover four levels of the mall, with levels three and four to become the heart of the development.
An existing gym will be removed and the area will be transformed into a cinema and entertainment venues, fast food outlets, specialty retail, health and wellbeing and community play spaces for the public to gather in.
Level four also provides for an increase in commercial, retail and community space.
Parking issues will also be addressed, with a total of 498 car spaces to be provided across the four levels, while 20 bicycle hoops will be provided, allowing for the parking of additional 32 bicycles.
The building presently has 409 car parking spaces.
While a decision is yet to be formally made, Melton deputy mayor Steve Abboushi indicated approval was imminent via his Facebook page.
“Council is pleased to advise that planning approval is soon to be granted for redevelopment of the CS Central Shopping Centre at 218 – 222 Caroline Springs Boulevard,” he said.
Consultant town planner Con Tsourounakis was equally as emphatic in his report to council.
“The proposed redevelopment of the Central Shopping Centre into a new entertainment and lifestyle precinct will be enjoyed by the whole local community,” Mr Tsourounakis said.
“The allocated spaces are all carefully designed to cater for the diversity of all age groups and cultural backgrounds that define the whole Caroline Springs area and its residents and local community.”
