Senior high school girls in Melbourne’s west are being asked: What would you do if you were Governor-General for a week?
The Young Women and Leadership Q&A, to be held at Victoria University’s College of Law and Justice in September, is part of a lecture series to honour past and current governors-general.
Students will be hand-picked to attend and offered the opportunity to meet and question retired governor-general Dame Quentin Bryce.
To qualify, they have until August 21 to write up to 150 words identifying issues they would advocate if they had the job for a week. They’re also required to draft a question to ask Ms Bryce.
All 42 secondary schools in the cities of Wyndham, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Brimbank and Melton have been invited to take part.
Former attorney-general Nicola Roxon said the Young Women and Leadership Q&A reflected Ms Bryce’s great commitment to improving the lives of young women in Australia.
“VU is delighted to be hosting this unusual opportunity for girls in the west to meet one of Australia’s most interesting public figures,” Ms Roxon said.
“Quentin Bryce has broken through many of the barriers for women leaders and brings her unique perspective to this interactive discussion. I’m sure it will be inspirational for young women starting to think about their future place in the world.
“This is exactly the sort of event we’re proud to host at the College of Law and Justice’s Queen Street campus.
“I urge young women to embrace this opportunity.”
Successful applicants will be notified by the end of August.
High school girls wishing to take part should make an application online at www.vu.edu.au.
