Rain plays havoc

Heavy rain overnight has played havoc on Brimbank roads.

Rain fell across the state in the last 24 hours, with Melbourne’s west among the locations with the heaviest rain falls.

Most suburbs in the west had between 35 and 45 millimetres of rain until 9am.

Weather bureau senior forecaster Matthew Thomas said Kororoit Creek and St Albans both received 46 millimetres of rain.

He said the rain had been expected and there hadn’t been much since 9am this morning.

VicRoads has reported there is flooding on several roads in the area, with drivers being told not to drive through floodwaters.

Among the flooded roads are Ballarat Road near Caroline Springs Boulevard in Ravenhall, and Kings Road in Sydenham.

Drivers are being told to use Mt Derrimut Road instead of Fitzgerald Road, due to flooding between the M80 Ring Road and Swann Drive.

Residents also posted on social media that there was flooding on Taylors Road near the St Albans train overpass earlier this morning.
