Pupils at University Park Primary School are taking an important cause to the floors of Keilor Central.
Grade 1 and 2 pupils at the St Albans school have been collecting bottle tops for community aid organisation Envision so they can be used to help create 3D printed hands for children in developing countries.
As part of the campaign, a collection bin has been set up at Keilor Central to collect bottle tops.
Centre assistant marketing manager Daniela Valencia said the initiative had proven successful.
“It’s been really lovely to see how much this has been embraced,” she said.
“One of the teachers in charge of it let us know customers were really curious, so they’ve decided to keep it longer than originally planned.”
As well as the bin, pupils have spent time at the centre to help educate shoppers.
The message: “Does the community realise that bottle tops cannot go into their recycling bin at home?” features prominently on the collection bin, which will remain at Keilor Central throughout the school holidays.
“To be able to support a local school has been great – it’s something we want to do a lot more of,” Ms Valencia said.
“It’s fantastic to see young people passionate about such a terrific cause.”
