Meet Brimbank’s next generation of town planners.

Grade 4 pupils at Sacred Heart Primary School in St Albans have spent the past term building a Lego municipality modelled on Brimbank.

The pupils were asked to create layouts for new suburbs and choose buildings and other features to be included in each area, such as parks, houses, hospitals and schools.

They also had to name their new suburbs.

The layouts were then joined together to give the pupils a blueprint for their new municipality.

Teacher Katie Bulboa said the project was part of the school’s STEM program.

“We researched Brimbank City Council and solved problems we found in the community, such as sustainability,” she said.

“The students built a whole new city council to help solve the problems of today.

“Each student had a specific job within their group. The project taught them about critical and creative thinking.”

Next term the pupils are hoping to show their creation to Cr Margaret Giudice who visited them during the creation of Lego Brimbank.
