Police are investigating an alleged assault which resulted in a 15-year-old cricket umpire being taken to hospital on Friday night.
The incident occurred during a junior match between Sunshine and Caroline Springs.
Caroline Springs Cricket Club president Steve Collins declined to comment to Star Weekly.
However, on the club’s Facebook page on Saturday a post attributed to Mr Collins confirmed the incident.
“Last night during an under 11 game one of our junior members was assaulted whilst working as an umpire,” it read.
“This incident is now in the police hands and all members involved and the club are supporting the police with these matters.
“We would also like to thank the parents that were present at the incident for remaining calm and ensuring the safety of our junior players.”
Victoria Police confirmed they were called to Dempster Park, Sunshine North about 7pm on Friday after reports that a 15 year-old boy had been assaulted.
Police said a number of people were spoken to at the scene and the teen was taken to hospital as a precaution.
The investigation is ongoing.
