Inaugural business dinner labelled a success

The Brimbank Community Fund has received a significant boost in the form of a $75,000 grant.

The money is being donated by mining services company Orica Australia.

Deer Park site manager Ray Sheridan made the announcement at the inaugural Brimbank Business in the Community dinner last Thursday.

The grant will run over three years with $25,000 to be contributed annually.

Mr Sheridan said the Brimbank Community Fund aligned with other programs Orica supports nationwide and overseas.

Established in 2009, the Brimbank Community Fund focuses on supporting initiatives that seek to improve education, employment and wellbeing outcomes and unlock the potential of Brimbank’s young people (up to 25 years old).

Brimbank mayor John Hedditch praised Orica’s surprise announcement.

“This is a commendable and outstanding contribution,” he said.

“ I hope this encourages other local businesses to ‘give back’ to the community.

“Announcing this level of funding certainly wowed guests and put the icing on the cake at the dinner.

“It’s a great example of how the Brimbank Community Fund’s advisory committee’s efforts to develop and foster trusting relationships with local businesses, charities, partners, supporters, donors and members of our community can bring about significant change and add real value to the lives of people in Brimbank.

“I’m a firm believer that this strategic approach to fundraising for community benefit by the fund’s committee is integral to the future success of the fund.”

The community fund offers financial support for local initiatives through a yearly grants program.
