Have your say on Ravenhall tip expansion

Cleanaway’s bid to expand its Ravenhall tip is due to go to Melton council by the end of this month, despite vehement community objection.

Consultation sessions are scheduled for this week and locals have created a storm on social media urging everyone to attend.

One person wrote: “Everyone, we need armies of residents to show up at these times to show Transpacific-Cleanaway that we, as a community, do not want them in our neighbourhood.”

The expansion plans were “outrageous”, another social media user wrote.

“This is a growth corridor. Please tell us where you live so we can campaign to relocate the tip to your backyards, and we will see how you like it.”

Stop the Tip campaigner Marion Martin told Star Weekly the community had been left in the dark about Cleanaway’s plans for the site, and the future for people living in the west.

“It’s the western suburbs – everyone thinks they can stick anything in the western suburbs,” Ms Martin said.

“I am really concerned for this whole area. If that tip expansion goes ahead, it’s going to be such a blight on this community,” she said.

Star Weekly has seen details of the waste management company’s plans to submit an application some time this month. But a company spokesman would not confirm this timing, stating: “[It] will be submitted in the near future, details of which will be available at that time”.

“There will be detailed information about the application provided to community members who attend the [consultation] sessions. Our team will be there to provide answers to any questions community members may have, and there will be opportunities for site tours.”

Cleanaway says it has letter-dropped homes near the landfill, asking residents to air their concerns, have their questions answered at the community consultation sessions, and tour the tip site.

Consultation sessions will be on Wednesday, February 17 and Friday, February 19 at 11am-12.30pm and 3-4pm, and on Tuesday, February 16 and Thursday, February 18 at 6-7.30pm, at the Ravenhall landfill, 1100 Christies Road. Bookings are essential: 0478 316 237.
