New Brimbank aquatic centre set to open

Excitement is building as council busily puts the finishing touches to the new state-of-the-art Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre ahead of its opening in a few weeks.

The Taylors Road centre in Keilor Downs, that acknowledges First Nations’ people, is almost finished with the focus now on training staff and promoting the centre and its services.

Brimbank mayor Jasmine Nguyen said the new centre had much to offer residents.

“The centre will be a vibrant and welcoming multi-generational health and wellbeing hub with a state-of-the-art aquatic and leisure facility,” she said.

Cr Nguyen said she was also excited about naming seven of the community rooms at the centre using words from Aboriginal languages.

The facility includes an Olympic-sized 50-metre 10-lane swimming pool, two massive water slides, a wellness centre, 24-hour gym and meeting and seven rooms with First Nations’ names.

The ground-floor activity room will be known as Wiipatja Kuulim or the “Mob of people’s place” while the first-floor quiet room will be known as Brimbank Durra or the “Heart of Brimbank”.

The centre is expected to open mid-September.
