A man has been jailed for five years for an armed hold-up of the Keilor Hotel, two years after he was the victim of an armed robbery at the same venue.
Former Keilor Hotel employee Cameron Sharp, 31, pleaded guilty in the County Court earlier this year to armed robbery and several weapons-related offences.
At a sentence hearing on July 1 the court heard Sharp had been on WorkCover for a “considerable period of time” after being the victim of an armed robbery while working at the hotel in 2011.
Just after 8am on June 8, 2013, Sharp went to the hotel dressed in a balaclava and carrying a rifle, and demanded money from the female employee who was working.
He made off with $19,835 after forcing the woman to lie face down on the floor.
The woman, a former co-worker of Sharps, said in a victim impact statement she “thought I was going to die”.
Justice John Jordan said Sharp had the weapon pointed at the woman or in her general vicinity for 20 frightening minutes.
“You knew the likely rostered times and security system in place at that time … and thus the likely ‘softness’ of your target,” the judge told Sharp.
Sharp will be eligible for parole in three years and six months.
