July 21, 1976

A federally-financed report has attacked the oppressive condition of migrant women in the workforce. The report, to be released officially this week, singles out the meat, clothing, metal/electrical and boot industries for heaviest criticism.

July 23, 1986

Five western suburbs policemen received slight injuries after being punched and kicked in an angry brawl during a National Soccer League match at Sunshine on Sunday. They were injured when 50 supporters swarmed a police car containing a Footscray JUST Soccer Club official and two club supporters after a heated match against Sunshine-George Cross at Chaplin Reserve.

Nurses at Western Hospital have given the Western Health Care Network until Monday to agree to their career structure demands or face bans. They claim nursing at the Western Hospital is reaching “crisis point”, with fewer nurses to care for increased patient numbers.

Brimbank residents have until Friday to lodge submissions to the draft council budget, which has already undergone drastic revision in a turbulent week since the original was prepared. The present draft has no increase in residential rates, replacing an originally proposed 3-4 per cent increase.
