Ice cream truck operator Jimmy Boras can thank his wife for his winning run on Millionaire Hot Seat.
The episode featuring the St Albans man aired on channel nine last week, with his family finding out that he had won $50,000 on the show.
“My wife kept saying I should apply for the show,” Mr Boras said.
“She filled out the form without me knowing. I then got called to go through a pre-show Zoom call and the rest was history.”
Mr Boras said it was pretty exciting sitting across from Eddie McGuire when the show was filmed.
He said that on the final question, he had narrowed it down to two answers and picked the right one.
“When he said you had won the funds I was like ‘oh jeez, what do I do now?’
“I’ve got a few kids and grandkids who will come up with some really creative ideas to spend the money.
“My brother is a quadriplegic and I would have liked to win enough money to take him for some more stem cell research, but it isn’t enough.”
Many people would have unknowingly met Mr Boras, who runs the Mr Softy van along the Maribyrnong River.
“I get to talk to people every day, exchanging stories and smiles.”
