Police are still investigating a hit and run accident in Deer Park on New Year’s Day that left an Ardeer man fighting for his life.

Nick Topia was riding his motorcycle on January 1 when he was hit by a silver SUV performing a U-turn on Station Road, Deer Park.

Nick’s daughter, Tiffany, said he was dragged 100 metres down the road, causing extensive leg injuries.

The 55-year-old has since had multiple surgeries and been in an induced coma more than once.

His family has set up a Facebook page, Justice for Nick, to keep people up to date with Mr Topia’s condition.

The family confirmed on Wednesday that Mr Topia would lose his leg after surgery to try and save it failed.

Police released images of the SUV, possibly a Ford Territory, which investigators believe may have had two female occupants at the time of the incident.

Police said the occupants of the car failed to stop after the collision and were last seen heading north on Station Road.

Police are seeking assistance from anyone who saw the incident or who may know the occupants of the car. A police spokesperson said last week the investigation was still ongoing.
