Green wisdom for Brimbank

The Sustainable Living in Brimbank expo is back for its eighth year, showcasing a wide range of ideas on how to conserve energy, grow your own food and generally take care of the environment.

This year’s expo, on this Saturday, will have six key themes – energy, waste, community, water, gardening and environment.

A council spokesperson said it would be a very broad and informative event.

“The event addresses what it means to be sustainable on a personal level, what is possible to achieve at home and what is important at a local community level around social, economic and environmental sustainability,” she said.

“The event involves a host of exhibits, demonstrations on waste, gardening, alternative energy sources and fresh produce, and presentations encouraging sustainable living.”

Highlights will include the Positive Charge workshop (10.30am-12.30pm), which will discuss solar power and reducing household power bills, and the Melbourne Water presentation (12.30-1pm).

Children’s activities will include recycled art and craft and Animals of Oz wildlife.

The expo is at Westvale Community Centre from 10am-1pm on Saturday, February 17. Admission is free.
