After two decades behind a desk, Kangan Institute student Alisa Webb wanted a hands-on career change.
She soon found a new groove in horticulture and conservation land management.
“I had spent 20 years in office administration and needed change. I have always been passionate about plants and the environment so combining the two certificate III courses in horticulture and conservation land management was perfect for me and my future path,” Ms Webb said.
“Tafe training has put in a position where I do what I love and wake up every day with a smile on my face. I have gained confidence and a solid base from which to develop my skills and knowledge.”
Following her successful studies, Ms Webb quickly found employment and has been working in the nursery department at Bunnings for over a year.
“I love that I get to share my passion for plants and encourage others,” she said.
Her passion and commitment was recently rewarded with one of the institute’s highest honours, the gold medallion in food and fibre at a recent awards night.
Ms Webb said the award was an incredible honour and thanked her teachers “for sharing their knowledge and passion, and for being incredibly supportive, encouraging and caring.”
Kangan Institute chief executive Sally Curtain congratulated all award winners.
“The awards are recognition of our students’ hard work and commitment to education, and provide a platform for them to achieve bigger and brighter futures from here on,” Ms Curtain said.
