Visitors to four high risk COVID-19 sites in Brimbank are being urged to be vigilant and get tested if symptoms develop.

V/Line’s Deer Park train to and from Southern Cross station, FMGI radiology in St Albans and Baby Mode and Dan Murphy’s in Sunshine all have current outbreaks according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

The warning applies to commuters on the 6am Deer Park V/Line service to Southern Cross, as well as the 3.45pm service from Southern Cross to Deer Park between September 2 and 7.

Those who visited FMGI radiology on September 10, Sunshine’s Baby Mode on September 13 and Dan Murphy’s on September 14 are also at risk of contracting the virus.

The outbreaks came as Victoria’s daily rise in COVID-19 cases plummeted below 20 for much of last week – its lowest since June.

Premier Daniel Andrews said the declining numbers were a “cause for great optimism and positivity“.

But he said it was essential to continue on a steady and cautious path.

Deputy Chief Health Officer Allen Cheng said the easiest and hardest thing about minimising case numbers is the ’super-spreading event’ phenomenon.

“If we keep a lid on all the latest cases, it could actually fall fairly quickly but one case that happens to be in the wrong place before they become symptomatic, or in a situation where they can spread to a lot of people and it can be away very quickly,” Professor Cheng said.

“They’re the sorts of situations where we obviously get concerned about and we’re trying to prevent.”
