A family of seven escaped a fire in the garage of their Sydenham home last night by climbing a fence into a neighbour’s property.
Fire Rescue Victoria crews were called to Contursi Drive just before 5pm following a number of triple-0 calls.
Fire blocked the front exit of the house, with the family evacuated to the backyard. Firefighters assisted them as they climbed a fence into a neighbour’s property.
Firefighters brought the fire under control within 20 minutes and stopped it from spreading.
The family were handed into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
