Families with young children in Sydenham won’t have to travel far to find kindergarten programs anymore.
The Early Learning Centre was opened at Gilson College last month.
Sydenham MP Natalie Hutchins visited the college for a tour of the new $2,769,139.00 centre and said it was a major win for the local community.
“We’re ensuring all Victorian families can access a great local kinder, close to home,” Ms Hutchins said.
“This new early learning centre will give local kids the support they need from an early age.”
The government chipped in $650,000 towards the new centre through a Children’s Facilities Capital Program grant.
The state’s biggest early education build will continue over the coming years, with almost 1,000 new and upgraded kinders to come.
The government says it will invest more than $1.6 billion over the next decade to build approximately 785 new kinders and expand 170 existing services.
It’s part of a $5 billion plan to ensure every Victorian child has access to at least five hours of subsidised three-year-old kinder by 2022. It plans to progressively scale up the hours to 15 per week over the next decade.
