The Woolworths store at the Sunshine Marketplace underwent a deep clean on Monday night after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

The team member last worked at the store on July 5.

Sunshine Marketplace centre manager Nick Kyritsis, said the clean extended to the entire centre.

“We have carried out a thorough clean of the centre since learning of the case, in addition to the ongoing sanitisation of specific areas including hand-rails, toilets, door handles, sinks, change tables and parents’ rooms, as well as communal furniture. This will continue for the foreseeable future,” Mr Kyritsis said.

There were 26 new active cases of COVID-19 in Brimbank on Tuesday, taking the total number of active cases within the municipality to 153..

It follows confirmation on Monday from aged care provider Estia Homes, that 13 elderly residents at its Ardeer site had tested positive for the virus.

Estia Homes said it had activated its coronavirus response plan, and is working with health departments to manage the situation.
