An exhibition that highlights the creativity of Brimbank’s disabled community will launch this week, with a special celebration.
This Friday marks International Day of People with a Disability, and the exhibition at Brimbank Community and Civic Centre will showcase art, film and music as part of the celebrations.
The exhibition is being run by Mambourin Disability Services, Diversity ‘n’ Disability and Yooralla, in partnership with Brimbank council. Mayor Margaret Giudice encouraged the whole community to see the creativity on display.
“The aim of the exhibition is to promote awareness around inclusive arts and people with disabilities having opportunities to exhibit their work within the community, “ Cr Giudice said.
In addition to the launch there will be a screening of the film Dangerous Deeds – an accessible video exhibition developed by people with disabilities which explores their passions and tells the stories of their involvement in the disability, advocacy and self-advocacy movements.
The launch on Friday will also include a free barbecue, and a flash mob performance at 12.30pm. The official opening is at 11.30am.
The exhibition will be on display on level 1 of the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre until the end of December.
