Cairnlea’s Vanessa Muggianu is at the forefront of the fundraising for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
Berth Restaurant in the Docklands where Ms Muggianu is an events manager, will be hosting its eighth annual morning tea this year.
The company has been one of the biggest fundraisers for the cancer council through its morning tea, raising more than $20,000 in 2019 alone.
Ms Muggianu said the event had grown rapidly since the first year.
“We just did something small to start off with and thought it was huge raising $3000,” she said.
“Every year after that it has grown.”
The event has grown even more special for Ms Muggianu, who has previously battled bowel cancer. She has been cancer free since 2019.
Ms Muggianu said there had been a lot of positive reaction for this year’s event with tickets selling fast.
For those unable to attend or not able to get a ticket, they are still able to contribute.
After not having a morning tea last year due to COVID-19, the group came up with a different idea to fundraise, with grazing boxes delivered to houses.
Ms Muggianu said they would be offering grazing boxes again this year.
“Everyone was disappointed last year that we couldn’t host an event,” she said. “The normal suppliers decided they still wanted to contribute.
“We decided to do grazing boxes so people could still have morning tea at home. Anyone who misses out on tickets can order a grazing box.”
Ms Muggianu said they were hoping to match 2019’s fundraising figure. They’ve already raised $8000.
The biggest morning tea event will be held on May 27.
