Five Brimbank groups are among 200 community organisations that have been awarded grants of $10,000, as part of the 2017 Westpac Foundation Community Grant Program.
The Raise Foundation (Braybrook), the Sudanese Australian Integrated Learning (SAIL) Program (Albion) and the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation (Brooklyn) will each receive a grant to continue their work in the community.
Albanvale and Burnside organisations, the Migrant Resource Centre North West Region and Prison Network’s Women at Risk Program are also among the 200 grant recipients.
The grant aims to help create a fairer, more inclusive Australia for about 47,000 Australians in need.
MRC diversity and disability manager Christian Astourian said: “Migrant Resource Centre has established a program known as Diversity and Disability which is run by people with disabilities and provides self-advocacy and empowerment to all members”.
“The Westpac Foundation funding will be instrumental in enabling this program to run three support groups.”
In Victoria, 63 organisations have been awarded grants. All organisations aim to improve the lives of youths at risk, victims of domestic violence, those suffering from mental health issues, indigenous Australians and refugees.
