Braybrook fundraiser to fight cancer

Brimbank residents are invited to a delicious Vietnamese vegetarian banquet as part of a Cancer Council Victoria fundraising dinner to fight cancer in Braybrook.

The banquet and fundraiser will be held at the Quang Minh Buddhist Temple at 18 Burke Street in Braybrook on Saturday, October 15 from 5pm.

Temple leader the Venerable Phuoc Tan Thich said cancer touched every community.

“It’s why it’s so important to come together and raise funds for a cancer-free future,” he said.

“I have seen first-hand the awful effects of cancer, and what it can do to not only the person, but to their family members as well.

“It’s up to us as a community to stop this terrible disease afflicting our community.”

Cancer Council Victoria is a non-profit cancer organisation dedicated to world-leading cancer research, prevention, and support services.

Cancer Council Victoria fundraising and communications Lyrian Fleming-Parsley said community events are an important part of the organisation’s fundraising efforts.

“They play a big role in helping fund our world-class researchers who are working day and night for a cancer-free future,” she said.

“Cancer is the leading cause of disease burden in Victoria.

“There were 34,712 Victorians diagnosed with cancer in 2020.”

The temple runs community support programs for Buddhists and non-Buddhists.

It also offers family counselling services, employment training schemes, and a free meal on Sundays.

The banquet is available for $50 per person and $25 for children up to 12 years of age.
