Anzac Day is a special day for Braybrook Sporting Club and this is even more so for the Western Region Football League division 3 club.
Having hosted a traditional Anzac Day clash for 12 years, the Brookers weren’t able to hold a match last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
They will be back in action this Sunday.
Brookers’ president Rob Hutchison said this year would be the biggest Anzac Day event that they’ve held.
“We were the first club in the WRFL to start hosting on Anzac Day,” he said.
“To be able to have a service and have army cadets, the mayor and the Sunshine RSL come down is pretty special.
“We’ve had a number of ex-players who have been part of the armed forces.”
Braybrook will this year face North Sunshine in the game, which is the only game being played on Anzac Day.
The two sides have played on this day a number of times before.
Hutchison said an Anzac Day service would start about 1.30pm, which would include all the players’ names being called out before lining up on the ground.
A number of people including WRFL chief executive Matthew Duck and a representative from the Brookers will talk about what Anzac Day means to them.
It will be followed by an Anzac service, with wreaths to be laid as well.
The Brookers’ women’s side and netballers won’t be playing on the day, but will be there in support and among those volunteering to help raise funds for the Anzac Day appeal.
