Brimbank council is a step closer to turning a St Albans property near Alfrieda Street it compulsorily acquired last month into a carpark.
The council will amend the planning scheme to rezone 21 McIvor Road from residential growth to public use to allow a carpark to be built on the 920-square metre site on the corner of McIvor Road and Collins Street.
The land is subject to a public acquisition overlay (PAO). The council was notified when the property was listed for sale on November 30 last year, but in a move that angered the managing real estate agent, it waited until February 9 – two days before it was to go to auction – before it notified the vendor the property would be compulsorily acquired. It was expected to fetch more than $1.5 million.
The council has said it would work with the vendors to agree on a price.
A council report revealed the property is one of seven fronting Collins Street between McIvor Road and Main Road East that are subject to a PAO. Brimbank already owns four properties on the road, which are used for car parking.
The planning amendment, called Amendment C193, will be exhibited for two weeks via an advertisement in this newspaper, in the Victorian Government Gazette and at the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre. Once the changes have been approved and gazetted, the PAO will be removed.
