State election: Natalie Hutchins, Marlene Kairouz set to retain seats

Natalie Hutchins and Marlene Kairouz look set to score their second and third parliamentary terms respectively after early results show strong polling in their favour.

Ms Hutchins, who is the incumbent MP for the newly branded Sydenham electorate, is currently sitting on 57.72 per cent of the primary vote, with nearly half of all votes counted.

Ms Hutchins said she would work hard to secure a location for the Taylors Hill public high school promised by Labor during the election campaign, as well as the removal of the Melton Highway level crossing.

“I’m really honoured and feel totally privileged to represent Sydenham in Parliament,” she said.

Kororoit MP Marlene Kairouz is likely to retain her seat and said she would continue to work hard to represent her growing community, with education and health her top priorities.

Ms Kairouz said a train station for Caroline Springs, the recently announced women’s and children’s hospital at the Sunshine Hospital site; the removal of level crossings at Main Road West, Furlong Road and Melton Highway and a secondary school in Taylors Hill would be her priorities during her next term in office.

“There’s also the Boral tip expansion and that’s something I will fight right to the end and make sure the expansion doesn’t go ahead,” Ms Kairouz said.

“There’s a whole range of issues, I just want to do my best.

“I’ve never promised people that I will give the world, I’ve just said to people that I will do my best and I will always be honest and upfront.”

“The next four years I’ll make sure all the promises that Labor made will be delivered.”
