Sunshine’s spring bloom on show

The Sunshine Garden Club’s annual spring show will feature a wide range of spring blooms including orchids, roses and birds of paradise, as well as other flowers and plants. There will also be a trading table where you can buy plants at bargain prices. Club membership costs $2.

Derrimut fun day, market

The Derrimut Community Centre will hold a family fun day and twilight market on Sunday, December 18, from 4-7pm. There will be lots of free activities, an animal farm, jumping castles, kids’ activities and exhibitions, senior groups and food vans. Bring a picnic dinner and stay for the carols by candlelight from 8-9pm.

 

Kororoit Creek art inspiration

Bring your passion for art and your love of Kororoit Creek to life at two ephemeral art workshops next month. Held at the Albion Community House on October 1 and 8 from 10am-2pm, the workshops will take participants through work with a local artist and foster an appreciation of natural spaces and sensitivity to litter and rubbish dumping. Learn about the natural wonders of Kororoit Creek through creating artwork using discovered natural objects.

Bowls hot shots in Keilor

Some of the best lawn bowlers in the country will descend on Keilor next month when the Keilor Bowls Club hosts the champion of champions event from October 5 to 7. The best players from each state will fight it out to become Australia’s representative at the international champion of champions later in the year.

Australia Day Awards nominations

Brimbank residents can nominate people for the Australia Day Awards, with nominations open until November 25. Applications can be made online across nine different categories.

Spring open day in Albion

The Albion and Ardeer Community Club will hold a spring open day at the Eco-Living Centre, Selwyn Park, Albion, on Sunday, November 6, 2-5pm. The event, partnered by FoodIsFree Sunshine, will include a wicking bed construction demonstration, face painting, music, community volleyball, BYO barbecue, cricket and more.

Dinosaur on the loose

Children will be able to walk alongside a dinosaur during a school holiday program at Brimbank Shopping Centre. The Discover Dinosaurs program will run from September 28 to 30. A four-metre long and two-metre high dinosaur will be roaming around the centre.

Orama Street market day

Orama Street Child Care Centre will hold a market day on Saturday, October 8, 9am-2pm. Gold coin entry. Check out the stalls, preloved clothes and accessories. There will be a sausage sizzle, door prizes, games, a photo booth. Stalls available from $10. At 24 Orama Street, Deer Park

Call for food donations

The Tin Shed (St Albans Community Youth Club) is calling for donations of non-perishable food such as tinned fruit, vegetables, tuna and soup, UHT milk, pasta, breakfast cereal and rice for its latest Anti-Poverty Week campaign from October 16-22. Cultural harmony in Sunshine

Sunshine pop-up market

A market is set to pop up in Sunshine every second Sunday of every month. The Sunnyside Pop Up Market will be held on October 9 at the Westend Hotel, 47 McIntyre Road, Sunshine, from 9am-2pm, featuring freshly cut flowers, street food and a kids playground. All attendees will go into a draw to win one of 10 $30 market vouchers.
